Aim and Scope
Hevruta: Journal of Jewish Studies was established to address a significant gap in the systematic study of Jewish communities, the Holocaust, and antisemitism in Serbia. Recognizing the growing interest of scholars in these topics, as well as the absence, until that time, of a scholarly publication with a regular publishing schedule, the initiative was taken to launch a multidisciplinary academic journal.
By combining a contemporary scholarly approach, thematic diversity, and high-quality contributions, the journal aims to serve as a central and independent platform for researchers working in this field. The journal publishes articles within the broad field of Jewish Studies. We welcome contributions on Jewish history, religion, and culture, as well as topics related to the Holocaust and antisemitism, the history of Israel and Jewish communities worldwide, critical editions of historical sources and documents, reviews, scholarly critiques, and information from the academic sphere.
Articles are interdisciplinary in nature, based on original archival research, the application of diverse theoretical and methodological frameworks, and critical engagement with relevant literature. The journal’s policy is to publish only original scholarly works that meet high academic standards, including research studies and articles, contributions, critical editions of sources and documents, polemics, critiques, essays, reviews, and scholarly information.
Hevruta: Journal of Jewish Studies does not publish works that lack a scholarly approach or are purely journalistic in nature, contain mythological content, promote racist, nationalist, or other discriminatory ideologies, or in any way include hate speech, personal narratives, or non-scholarly literary prose. Submissions outside the journal’s thematic scope will not be accepted.
All scholarly submissions undergo a rigorous academic evaluation process, including an initial editorial review and a double-blind external peer review. The journal is published annually in Serbian and English.
Hevruta: Journal of Jewish Studies is an open-access journal. Articles published in the journal can be freely downloaded from the journal’s website and used in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 4.0 International License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).
The submission, peer-review, and publication process in Hevruta: Journal of Jewish Studies is free of charge.
